Maya no Souretsu
Maya's Funeral Procession dates back to 1972; Ichijo's style is very different here, a combination of the quickly evolving shoujo style still very influenced by Osamu Tezuka's designs and of the blockier Gothic horror style reminiscent of woodcuts. The blacks are very solid, the whites are very bright; there is some stippling and cross-shading, but it all looks hand-drawn rather than screen-toned, and the panel layouts are just gorgeous. On the way to her family's new country house, innocent young Reina notices a tall, dark, striking woman standing in the shadows. Soon, neglected by her parents, Reina falls under the spell of the mysterious Maya ... but family secrets may destroy any chance Reina has for happiness. This is one of the earliest examples of shoujo-ai (girls' love or lesbian romance) in manga and it is the kind of over-the-top Gothic melodrama that could easily be slipped into a collection by Edgar Allan Poe. Once, there was an island where it was always spring... ...An island somewhere in the South Seas, with green forests and wide lakes. And mountains, let us not forget the mountains. Tall mountains with deep roots, filled with one of mankind's most precious treasures: diamonds. The name of this island is Malynera, and its king is only a child. Patalliro the 8th, King of Malynera, is ten-years-old. From the day he was born, everyone knew he was... unusual. He is a hyper boy, with flashes of genius, moments of thoughtless cruelty, and the ability to make a bad pun out of anything. Smart, but only a child and so he often does very stupid things. Patalliro! is his story. He lives in a world very similar to our own, but where the bizarre is commonplace. He manages to get into all kinds of trouble, from international terrorists, to space aliens, to accidental time-travel. His first challenge as king is to stay alive, when a group called the International Diamond Syndicate decides that they want control of the Malynera diamond mines. This is how he meets Bancoran, who was assigned to be his bodyguard during a trip to Britain. It's also how they meet Maraich, who was one of the assassins sent by the IDS. Patalliro is almost always accompanied by his army of Tamanegi ("Onions," so-called because of their onion-shapped wigs). The Tamanegi all wear identical masks, wigs, and glasses, and are known only by numbers. They are Patalliro's protectors, but protect the world from him just as much as they protect him from the world. (Source: cathion.net)

Okusama wa Patalliro!
The story features our hero, Opata, a ten-year-old boy who bears a suspicious resemblance to Patalliro, but has quite a different personality. He's working at a part-time agency as a cleaner to pay off debts left by his late father. Randomly, his employer Okuma (the most obvious okama in the history of Japan) tells him she has a new job for him, posing as the wife of an American tycoon visiting Japan whose real wife has disappeared. Opata bears an eiree resemblance to the run-away wife. The tycoon has no idea that Opata is actually a boy. The episode is such a success that his old school friends want to hire Opata themselves, since they had a crush on the wife in college. Okuma drags him to America, where they become stranded. Thereafter, Opata keeps up his female disguise to lure in men in various crazy schemes of Okuma so that they can raise enough money to return to Japan. Hilarity results from Okuma's various surprising skills (such as contacts in the CIA, the ability to catch, prepare, and cook rabbits, and a mean leg for hitchhiking a ride)... as well as Opata's surprising affinity for cross-dressing
