I notice every time the Ml mentioned the mute as she or her they always put quotation around it. Like this "she" or this "her" I think this indicate that he know the mute is a man already. He saying a man but the other doesn't know because the word for man and woman in Chinese sound the same. Just spell differently so every time he say him they thought he mean her.
